The awkward nature of this newbuild site, a tight space on a steep hill, necessitated the construction of a reinforced, concrete ‘raft’ foundation to build the detached house and overcome the many difficult, technical aspects of the site. The structural work involved excavating and removing several tons of clay, adding prefabricated steel reinforcements and covering the area in a solid concrete slab. Sean liaised with structural engineers and the local building inspector to ensure a sound base for the new house and a smooth process for the client.
